Cali’s fair is one of the most important events in the country, which attracts citizens and foreigners due to the variety of activities that are made. It started in 1957 as “the sugar cane fair” because that is one of the most representative agricultural products from the region. This fair was only about bullfighting and it lasted a month. Today, it is celebrated between 25th and 30th of December and has other activities during the day or the night to choose from: cavalcades, parades, concerts, salsa shows, food fairs, etc.
This fairs starts with its most important event called Salsódromo, which consists n a parade on the main streets with shows of the best salsa dancers. It continues with the cavalcade in which the horses show their beauty and attributes. There are simultaneous parties in different places around the city and the bullfighting season. During the 6 days of the fair there are presentations of the best salsa orchestras, recognized nationally and internationally, accompanied by the most important salsa schools that exhibit shocking choreographies. Cali is well recognized as the world’s salsa capital and it proves it not only during this fair. People form Cali is known for their party mood and they celebrate during weekends at the disco, their homes or outside. Here is celebrated the world salsa congress and the world salsa fest, for which they say their foot don´t walk, but dance.
The fair includes an antique car parade and the called “tascas”, that are small gastronomic fairs in temporary colored restaurants that move around the city, where you can try tastes from around the world.
